This particular photograph is titled "Contrast &
Clarity." As you can see it is a portrait of a small
child holding a handgun to his head. The child
is crying and appears to be deeply troubled by
something. He is also dirty which may imply that
he is out on his own or in a very poor family.
Possibly no family at all, which could be a
reason for such great sadness. The photo is very
sad and even disturbing but this may be what
McCurry was going for. If so, he has done a
magnificent job of creating such emotions in a
viewer.

   
Tony Schanuel
About a month ago I was fortunate enough to meet Tony Schanuel, who is an amazing photographer. He came to our class as a guest speaker and told us his story of his photography career. In addition he showed us many of his pieces. I have listened to many people talk about their work and non have been quite as enthusiastic as he was. On top of his level of love for his own work, I share a deep appreciation for his work. The photographs that he has made are what I have always desired to make but haven't had the same amount of talent as him. Tony Schanuel has given me and most likely many others great inspiration to make better quality photographs.
